Photos: One killed as students of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta protest insecurity on their campus


Abisoye Taiwo, a 100 level student of Forestry and Wildlife Management of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) in Ogun state was reportedly shot today after a peaceful protest by students of the school degenerated.

The students were staging a protest over insecurity on campus as some robbers attacked some hostels in the school last night, killing a 100 level Banking and Finance student in the process.

The angry students decided to stage a protest this morning as the spate of robbery attacks had increased within the school premises in the last one month. They accused the management of the school of refusing to address the issue by providing them adequate security.

A vehicle conveying people to the People Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention was involved in an accident earlier today along Abak enroute Port Harcourt. Fortunately, no life was lost. More photos after the cut.



Photos: Three escape death after terrible accident on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway


Three people sustained serious injuries after a trailer carrying a container ran into three commercial buses at Falgbems bus stop on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos. According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the accident which occurred around 6:46am on Tuesday, was as a result of illegal stopping of the commercial bus drivers to pick passengers on the express way. *graphic photos after the cut*
Three people sustained serious injuries, one person was taken to the hospital by a passer-by before the arrival of the ERT, while the other two were given first aid treatment before being taken to the Trauma centre for further treatment, by the Lagos State Ambulance Services. The LASEMA General Manager Mr. Michael Akindele advised motorists to avoid reckless driving, over speeding and also adhere to all traffic rules and regulation to avoid incident such as this.

Fire guts electronics shops at New Garage, Bariga, Lagos (photos/video)


Fire broke out by 6:15am in some Electronic shops located at New Garage, Bariga, Lagos. According to reports sent in to LIB from eyewitnesses, the fire gutted shops containing TV screens, refrigerators, Air Conditioning appliances, flammable goods like foams, etc. 

It reportedly affected a lot of shops and even some houses. Residents in the area fought to contain the spread of the fire but goods worth millions of naira were still destroyed. Fire Service were able to control and subdue the fire when they arrived. Cause of the outbreak is yet to be ascertained and no record of any loss of life. Photos/Video: No life lost in multiple accidents at Ziks Avenue, Awka




A multiple accident occurred Monday, August 15, involving a luxurious bus from Benue State, cars, lorries, motorcycles and tricycles, along Ziks Avenue, Awka, Anambra State capital According to ABS, the brake of the luxurious bus with registration number HAL 276YG,  failed and drove from Nkwo Awka through Ziks Avenue clearing vehicles in its way, including cars and motorcycles. The bus finally halted close to Nipost office, Awka.
During the scary ride, passengers stuck out their heads from the windows, shouting and motioning people to leave the road to avoid being hit.

Fortunately, no life was lost, the injured were evacuated to different hospitals in Awka. At least twelve cars, fifteen tricycles, street lights, among others were destroyed in the crash.

One of the passengers, who spoke to ABS, Isaiah Shika said he boarded the bus from Gboko, Benue State, but at some point the driver noticed a fault which caused them to push the bus after repairs. The bus driver and conductor are no where to be found as of the time of filling this report.
